A pre-test lesson and a car for your test

Prepare with your instructor before attending your official practical driving test. The voucher includes:

  • A 60-minute driving lesson before your test time: settle into the car and practise skills appropriate to your preparation needs.
  • Use of the instructor’s automatic car: take your official driving test in the car arranged with your instructor.
  • Time to review key skills: discuss observations, positioning, speed control or manoeuvres you want to revisit during the lesson.
  • A coordinated plan: confirm the meeting point and timing with your instructor so the lesson fits around your test appointment and required arrival time.

The 60 minutes refers to the pre-test lesson. Use of the car for your official test is additional to that lesson; this is not a 60-minute total package.

How to arrange your test-day package

  1. Confirm coverage and availability. Discuss your test centre, intended date and time with your HIENZ instructor before purchasing. If you already have a test booking, provide the appointment details.
  2. Arrange your official test separately. Coordinate the test appointment with your instructor’s availability. Purchasing this voucher does not reserve a government test appointment.
  3. Purchase your voucher. Sign in to the correct HIENZ account and complete payment. If it is a gift, transfer the voucher to the learner before arranging redemption.
  4. Arrange the matching test-day service. Confirm the package booking and voucher application with your instructor. A general 60-minute lesson booking alone does not reserve the car for the official test.
  5. Confirm your meeting time. Allow for the full 60-minute lesson before the test and the testing authority’s required arrival time. Check your appointment confirmation for documents and other requirements.

The official test appointment and government test fees are separate from this voucher. The package provides preparation and car use; it does not guarantee a test pass.

Giving the voucher to someone else?

Buying for someone else? Have their name, mobile number and email address ready. Follow the prepaid lesson voucher steps in our guide to transfer the voucher to the correct recipient.

Sending a voucher photo alone does not transfer the lesson. Complete the gifting process in your account, then send the recipient their certificate and booking information. The original expiry date still applies.

Pay the instructor before the lesson. Let them know which voucher purchase or booking the payment is for so it is recorded correctly.

Your prepaid lesson voucher becomes available after payment has been received and processed. An unpaid order does not provide a paid lesson entitlement.

A useful gift for staff and clients

Help a staff member or client prepare for their practical driving test with a 60-minute pre-test lesson and use of the instructor’s automatic car. This voucher can be used in supported HIENZ service areas in Queensland and Victoria.

Organisation registration takes place during a purchase or booking when the Corporate option is available. Have your organisation name, account manager's contact details and the recipient's details ready. If you already have an account, sign in before purchasing.

Once organisation administrator access is active, use My Organisation to manage associated clients and bookings, and My Organisation → History for transaction records and paid invoices. Personal purchase invoices remain under My Profile → Purchases.

Before buying for several learners, confirm each person’s test location and instructor availability. Follow the guide to assign or gift the prepaid package to the correct learner. Purchasing multiple vouchers does not automatically distribute them to recipients.

What does this voucher include?

A 60-minute driving lesson before your practical driving test and use of the instructor’s automatic car for the official test. The test takes place in addition to the pre-test lesson.

Can I use it in Queensland and Victoria?

Yes, within supported HIENZ service areas in Queensland and Victoria. Coverage depends on the test centre and instructor and vehicle availability. Confirm your chosen location and appointment time before purchasing.

Does purchasing the voucher book my official test?

No. The official test appointment must be arranged separately. Coordinate the appointment with your instructor so the car and pre-test lesson are available at the required time.

Are government test fees included?

Government test fees are separate from this voucher. The voucher covers the HIENZ pre-test lesson and use of the instructor’s car for the test.

What if I have not driven with HIENZ before?

Discuss your driving experience and test plans with an instructor before purchasing. The instructor can advise whether a preparation lesson or assessment is needed before arranging test-day car use.

When should I meet the instructor?

Confirm the meeting point and time directly with your instructor. The schedule must allow for the full 60-minute lesson before the test and the testing authority’s required arrival and check-in time.

What should I bring on test day?

Follow the document and eligibility instructions in your official test booking confirmation. Bring your current learner permit or licence, required identification and any prescribed glasses or contact lenses.

How long is the voucher valid?

The voucher is valid for 36 months from purchase. Transferring it to another person does not restart the original expiry period. A valid voucher does not guarantee availability for a particular test appointment.

What if my test appointment changes?

Notify your instructor promptly so the lesson and vehicle arrangements can be reviewed. Do not assume that changing the government appointment automatically changes your HIENZ booking. HIENZ booking and cancellation terms apply.

Which booking and refund conditions apply?

Bookings are subject to service-area coverage, instructor and vehicle availability, and HIENZ booking and cancellation terms. Refunds are subject to the HIENZ Delivery and Refund Policy and your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
